Econo Campers NZ Rental Terms

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR RENTALS

On arrival you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the operators of Econo Campers NZ. Here is a summary of their terms and conditions.

DEFINITIONS

The following definitions apply for the Terms and Conditions of Econo Campers NZ:

 * The Supplier means the operator of Econo Campers NZ.
 * The Client is also referred to as the hirer (s) or renter (s).

CANCELLATION FEES
The initial deposit paid is non-refundable.  In addition to forfeiting your deposit, the following charges also apply:
Any booking may be cancelled without penalty within 3 days of receipt of confirmation,  unless it is within 28 days of pick up when the following charges will apply:
28 days and over prior to pick up - Deposit retained
10-27 days prior to pick up - 25% of total reservation cost
4 -9 days prior to pick up - 50% of total reservation cost
3 days prior to vehicle pick up or no show 100% of total reservation cost
There is no refund for late pick up or early return of vehicle.

We strongly recommend you purchase Travel Insurance, that includes sufficient cancellation insurance to cover the above charges.
The early return of a vehicle does not entitle you to a refund.
A change of the drop off location once travel has commenced is always subject to confirmation by Econo Campers and may incur the full cost of repositioning the vehicle to the original drop off location reserved.

CALCULATING THE RATES
Rates are calculated on a daily basis. The day you Pick Up is counted as Day 1 and the day you Drop Off is the last day regardless of the time of pick up and drop off, e.g. Pick Up at 1400 on 01 May and Drop Off at 1000 on 08 May is calculated as an 8 day hire.

MINIMUM HIRE PERIOD
Because you really need it to see anything in New Zealand we have a minimum hire period of seven (7) days.  For one way hires between Christchurch and Auckland or vice versa the minimum hire period is fourteen (14) days.  

BICYCLE RACK AND BICYLES RENTAL

Why not hire a bicycle rack and bicycles to go with your Econo Camper?  
Econo Campers is the only budget campervan company who can offer you bicycle racks and bicycles to rent with your vehicle.  And it’s not expensive:

Bicycle rack:         NZ$50.00 per hire
Bicycles:                NZ$6.00 per bicycle per day [maximum NZ$125.00

                                bicycle rack and bicycle to cover loss or damage]

ECONO CAMPERS provides bicycle racks and modern bicycles for hire. Racks can be fitted to any vehicle model in the fleet and are available in conjunction with hires from either depot, Auckland or Christchurch, including one way hires.
- Each Econo Camper vehicle can carry a maximum of two bicycles.
- Bicycles are all general purpose models suitable for both road use and moderate off-road conditions.
- Suitable models are available for children.
- Child seats are available and can be fitted on request.(NZ$25 per seat per hire)
- A helmet [compulsory in New Zealand], cycle lock and repair kit are supplied with each bicycle.
- There is no cost for one way hire of bicycles.
- All bicycles are insured by Econo Campers, however an Excess of NZ$100 per bicycle and bicycle rack will apply to cover loss or
damage.
- Costs for normal on-road maintenance will be at Econo Campers’ expense. Replacements or repairs required due to the fault of the
hirer up to the value of NZ$100 per bicycle and/or bicycle rack will be met by the hirer.
- Bicycle hire reservations should be completed at the same time as the vehicle hire in order to avoid disappointment.

OTHER OPTIONAL ITEM TO HIRE

INSURANCE
Econo Campers rates include Standard Econo Campers Vehicle Insurance. This provides cover for:
  - Damage to the Econo Campers vehicle or third party property.
  - Public Liability up to NZ$5,000,000.

•  A Bond/Excess of NZ$1,200 must be paid on collection of the vehicle. The hirer will be responsible for the first NZ$1,200 of any costs incurred due to damage to the hired vehicle or third party property.

•  The hirer will be fully liable for the repair or replacement of damaged windscreens.

•  This Bond/Excess may be paid by cash or credit card. Econo Campers accepts Visa and Mastercard. If a credit card is used as the method of payment then details will be taken by Econo Campers and held on file. No amount will be debited against the credit card on pick up. However, in the event of an accident, the full Bond of NZ$1,200 will be uplifted immediately and any balance refunded only after full and final costs have been established and deducted.

•   No deductions will be made against this credit card provided the vehicle is returned to the agreed drop off depot, on the due drop off date, in a reasonably clean condition with no damage incurred to the hire vehicle or third party property, with a full tank of fuel, an empty
toilet cassette [where appropriate] and an empty waste water tank.

•   Payment of the NZ$1,200 Bond is per incident and should damage be incurred to the hired vehicle or third party property a further Bond payment will be required.

Bond reduction option - Payment of NZ$12 per day (maximum NZ$720 for any one hire) will reduce the Bond/Excess to NZ$250.

•   The hirer will be responsible for the first NZ$250 of any costs incurred due to damage to the hired vehicle or third party property.

•   The hirer will be fully liable for the repair or replacement of damaged windscreens up to a maximum of NZ$250.

•   The Bond/Excess may be paid by cash or credit card. If a credit card is used as the method of payment then details will be taken by Econo Campers and held on file. No amount will be debited against the credit card on pick up. However, in the event of an accident, the full Bond of NZ$250 will be uplifted immediately and any balance refunded only after full and final costs have been established and deducted.

•   As the Bond is applicable per incident, should damage be incurred to the hire vehicle or third party property credit card details will be taken for a new NZ$250 Bond.

•   No deductions will be made against this credit card provided the vehicle is returned to the agreed drop off depot, on the due drop off date, in a reasonably clean condition with no damage incurred to the hire vehicle or third party property, with a full tank of fuel, an empty toilet cassette [where appropriate] and an empty waste water tank.

INSURANCE EXCLUSIONS
The following are the standard exclusions:
The hirer will be fully liable for any damage to the Econo Campers vehicle or third party property if:
- The terms of the Rental Agreement entered into with Econo Campers are breached.
- Damage is caused while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- The vehicle is driven on restricted roads.
- Damage is due to careless, wilful or reckless driving.
- Negligence, or other act of the hirer results in water submersion or salt water damage.
- The hirer has repairs made to the vehicle without the insurer's permission.
- The hirer admits liability and accepts responsibility for third party damage.

TRAFFIC INFRINGEMENTS
Details of the credit card will be held, and charges made against it if necessary, to settle all traffic infringement notices (if any) incurred by the hirer with the New Zealand Traffic Authorities.

One Way Hires
You can take your Econo Campers rental at no additional cost one way between Auckland and Christchurch and vice versa providing the rental period is a minimum of 14 days.

Driver Requirements
To rent an Econo Camper you must be 21 years of age or older and hold a current valid driver's licence, to be produced at the start of the hire. A country of origin licence is acceptable, however if you hold a non-English licence you must either carry an accurate English translation of your foreign driver’s licence or an International Driving Permit while driving. A normal car licence is all that is required to drive any Econo Campers vehicle. No heavy vehicle, or other special category licence is required. No maximum age limit applies providing you hold an appropriate valid licence.

The English translation referred to must be issued by one of the following authorities:
- The New Zealand Translation Service
- A diplomatic representative at a High Commission, Embassy or Consulate
- The authority that issued your overseas driver’s licence

Traffic Infringements
All traffic infringements you incur during the hire are your own responsibility and Econo Campers will deduct all charges from the New Zealand Traffic Authorities for these from your Credit Card.

Animals
Sorry, we regret that animals are not permitted to travel in any Econo Campers vehicle.

Road Restrictions
You may drive your rental vehicle on any road in New Zealand except the following which are prohibited in all circumstances:

North Island:
Ninety Mile Beach - Northland
North of Colville Township - Coromandel Peninsula  

South Island:
Skippers Canyon Road - Queenstown
Ball Hutt Road - Mt Cook 

Vehicle Substitution & Design
We shall make every effort to provide the vehicle requested, but where a vehicle is unavailable for any reason we reserve the right to provide you with a comparably high standard vehicle at no extra cost. While including the same facilities, vehicle layouts may vary slightly to those shown due to manufacturer's design changes.

Smokefree fleet
Your Econo Campers vehicle will be totally smoke free.  A cleaning fee will apply if we are required to clean your vehicle if you have smoked in it.

Living Equipment
[Include the same chart and information as for the equivalent Econo Campervans vehicle but of course rename it]

Road User Charge/Diesel Tax
Econo Campers does NOT charge you extra for the New Zealand Road User Charge / Diesel Tax applicable to the 2 Berth Motorhome.

On Road Assistance
It is your obligation to contact Econo Vehicle Rentals should any problems be experienced with the vehicle. 
Econo Vehicle Rentals offers a 24 hour telephone number for On-Road Assistance in case of accidents or breakdowns.

Frequently Asked Questions
 
How costs are calculated
If I pick up my vehicle at 2.30pm on a Saturday and drop it off before 2.30pm on the following Saturday is this counted as a 7 day hire?

No, hires are calculated on a daily rate not a 24 hour basis. Therefore the first and last days are both counted when calculating the number of hire days, regardless of the time you pick up or drop off the vehicle. The above example would be an 8 day hire.

When do I have to pay the hire costs?
The balance of the hire cost must be paid at least 28 days prior to the pick up date.  Full payment information will be provided with the booking confirmation.

Is there cover for tyres and windscreens?
The repair and/or replacement of tyres is covered.  Multiple replacement of windscreens is only covered if you reduce the Bond/Excess to NZ$250 by paying NZ$12.00 per day. 

What is the minimum hire period?
A minimum of 7 days applies to all hires days except for all one way hires between the two Econo Vehicle Rentals Depots (Auckland and Christchurch) when a minimum of 14 days applies.

Is there a one way hire fee between Auckland and Christchurch?
No, Econo Campers does not charge a one way fee but please note the 14 day minimum hire period for one way hires.

Does Econo Campers charge for the Road Users Charge (Diesel Tax) on the 2 Berth Motorhome?
No, this is included in your hire fee.

Is there a refund if I shorten my hire while on holiday?
No, there is no refund if you return your vehicle earlier than the reserved period.

Can I change my drop off location at any time?
No, once travel has commenced a change of drop off location is always subject to confirmation by Econo Campers and may incur the full cost of repositioning the vehicle to the original drop off location reserved.

Where are your depots located?
Econo Campers has <depots> in Auckland and Christchurch, both conveniently located near to the International and Domestic Airports.

Can Econo Campers deliver a vehicle to my overnight accommodation?
No, it is necessary for you to come to our depot to collect your vehicle so we are able to complete the necessary documentation, and familiarise you with the operation of the campervan.  Remember, free transfers are available from the Airport.

Does Econo Campers have vehicles with automatic transmission?
No, all Econo Campers vehicles have manual transmission.

How old do I have to be to hire an Econo Campers vehicle?
The minimum age for hiring a vehicle is 21 years. There is no maximum age limit.

Is there an additional charge for extra drivers?
No, Econo Campers encourages you to register more than one person to share the driving for safety reasons.

Is there heating in the vehicle?
Yes, both models have 240 volt electric heaters. In addition, the 2 Berth Motorhome also has a gas heater. All vehicles have heating in the cab which operates when you are driving.

Is equipment included in the vehicle cost?
Yes, every Econo Campers vehicle is fully equipped at no additional cost to the hirer. Refer to <Living Equipment> for a complete list of items included.

If the gas bottle in my vehicle runs out am I entitled to a refund?
No, the hirer is responsible for all LPG refills.

Do the vehicles have maps and Holiday Park directories?
Yes, all hires include a pack containing a complimentary New Zealand Road Atlas, Holiday Park directories and other tourist information.

Do I have to pre-book Holiday Parks?
We recommend that you consider making advance bookings for the peak holiday periods over Christmas/New Year and the Easter period.  Bookings may also be wise in some of the key tourist centres for the peak summer period from mid December to the end of January.

Do I have to pre-book the ferry service across Cook Strait?
It is advisable to pre-book ferry services in advance to avoid any disappointment and inconvenience. During the peak summer season from November to March it is strongly recommended that you do so.

Do you have a breakdown service?
Yes, you can contact an Econo Campers staff member 24 hours a day on our freephone helpline 0800 759 919.  Econo Camper has a comprehensive network of Service Agents throughout the country who can assist.

Can I bring my dog or cat with me?
No, we regret that animals are not permitted to travel in any Econo Campers vehicle.

Can I smoke in the vehicle?
No, all Econo Campers vehicles are non smoking and a cleaning fee may be charged if smoke is detected in the vehicle when it is returned.
 
Do you offer an Airport shuttle service?
Yes, Econo Campers operates a mini coach shuttle between Auckland and Christchurch Airports and its Depots.

Complimentary transfers between the Airport and Depot are available to Econo Campers clients, on demand, by shuttle operated by Econo Vehicle Rentals.  Call Freephone on arrival in Auckland, and Freephone on arrival in Christchurch and a vehicle will be despatched immediately to collect you.

Complimentary transfers are available from the Depot to the Airport in both cities by Econo Vehicle Rentals shuttle and can be arranged by clients on termination of their hire.

We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.

Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed. Please note that a 1.75% credit card charge will be added when your payment is processed.

A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.

If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

Information disclosure
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.

Amendments
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Car rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 25.00
To add or remove extras to/from a confirmed booking: 10.00
Motorhome rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 75.00
To add or remove extras to/from confirmed booking: 20.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.

Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.

Refund Policy
We are committed to providing a quality service and aim for complete customer satisfaction. In the event of cancellation, any refunds or penalties are detailed in the terms and conditions of your selected vehicle that you are asked to read and accept at time of booking. In the event you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.

- Each Econo Camper vehicle can carry a maximum of two bicycles.
- Bicycles are all general purpose models suitable for both road use and moderate off-road conditions.
- Suitable models are available for children.
- Child seats are available and can be fitted on request.(NZ$25 per seat per hire)
- A helmet [compulsory in New Zealand], cycle lock and repair kit are supplied with each bicycle.
- There is no cost for one way hire of bicycles.
- All bicycles are insured by Econo Campers, however an Excess of NZ$100 per bicycle and bicycle rack will apply to cover loss or
damage.
- Costs for normal on-road maintenance will be at Econo Campers’ expense. Replacements or repairs required due to the fault of the
hirer up to the value of NZ$100 per bicycle and/or bicycle rack will be met by the hirer.
- Bicycle hire reservations should be completed at the same time as the vehicle hire in order to avoid disappointment.

INSURANCE
Econo Campers rates include Standard Econo Campers Vehicle Insurance. This provides cover for:
  - Damage to the Econo Campers vehicle or third party property.
  - Public Liability up to NZ$5,000,000.

•  A Bond/Excess of NZ$1,200 must be paid on collection of the vehicle. The hirer will be responsible for the first NZ$1,200 of any costs incurred due to damage to the hired vehicle or third party property.

•  The hirer will be fully liable for the repair or replacement of damaged windscreens.

•  This Bond/Excess may be paid by cash or credit card. Econo Campers accepts Visa and Mastercard. If a credit card is used as the method of payment then details will be taken by Econo Campers and held on file. No amount will be debited against the credit card on pick up. However, in the event of an accident, the full Bond of NZ$1,200 will be uplifted immediately and any balance refunded only after full and final costs have been established and deducted.

•   No deductions will be made against this credit card provided the vehicle is returned to the agreed drop off depot, on the due drop off date, in a reasonably clean condition with no damage incurred to the hire vehicle or third party property, with a full tank of fuel, an empty
toilet cassette [where appropriate] and an empty waste water tank.

•   Payment of the NZ$1,200 Bond is per incident and should damage be incurred to the hired vehicle or third party property a further Bond payment will be required.

Bond reduction option - Payment of NZ$12 per day (maximum NZ$720 for any one hire) will reduce the Bond/Excess to NZ$250.

•   The hirer will be responsible for the first NZ$250 of any costs incurred due to damage to the hired vehicle or third party property.

•   The hirer will be fully liable for the repair or replacement of damaged windscreens up to a maximum of NZ$250.

•   The Bond/Excess may be paid by cash or credit card. If a credit card is used as the method of payment then details will be taken by Econo Campers and held on file. No amount will be debited against the credit card on pick up. However, in the event of an accident, the full Bond of NZ$250 will be uplifted immediately and any balance refunded only after full and final costs have been established and deducted.

•   As the Bond is applicable per incident, should damage be incurred to the hire vehicle or third party property credit card details will be taken for a new NZ$250 Bond.

•   No deductions will be made against this credit card provided the vehicle is returned to the agreed drop off depot, on the due drop off date, in a reasonably clean condition with no damage incurred to the hire vehicle or third party property, with a full tank of fuel, an empty toilet cassette [where appropriate] and an empty waste water tank.

INSURANCE EXCLUSIONS
The following are the standard exclusions:
The hirer will be fully liable for any damage to the Econo Campers vehicle or third party property if:
- The terms of the Rental Agreement entered into with Econo Campers are breached.
- Damage is caused while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- The vehicle is driven on restricted roads.
- Damage is due to careless, wilful or reckless driving.
- Negligence, or other act of the hirer results in water submersion or salt water damage.
- The hirer has repairs made to the vehicle without the insurer's permission.
- The hirer admits liability and accepts responsibility for third party damage.

TRAFFIC INFRINGEMENTS
Details of the credit card will be held, and charges made against it if necessary, to settle all traffic infringement notices (if any) incurred by the hirer with the New Zealand Traffic Authorities.

One Way Hires
You can take your Econo Campers rental at no additional cost one way between Auckland and Christchurch and vice versa providing the rental period is a minimum of 14 days.

Driver Requirements
To rent an Econo Camper you must be 21 years of age or older and hold a current valid driver's licence, to be produced at the start of the hire. A country of origin licence is acceptable, however if you hold a non-English licence you must either carry an accurate English translation of your foreign driver’s licence or an International Driving Permit while driving. A normal car licence is all that is required to drive any Econo Campers vehicle. No heavy vehicle, or other special category licence is required. No maximum age limit applies providing you hold an appropriate valid licence.

The English translation referred to must be issued by one of the following authorities:
- The New Zealand Translation Service
- A diplomatic representative at a High Commission, Embassy or Consulate
- The authority that issued your overseas driver’s licence

Traffic Infringements
All traffic infringements you incur during the hire are your own responsibility and Econo Campers will deduct all charges from the New Zealand Traffic Authorities for these from your Credit Card.

Animals
Sorry, we regret that animals are not permitted to travel in any Econo Campers vehicle.

Road Restrictions
You may drive your rental vehicle on any road in New Zealand except the following which are prohibited in all circumstances:

North Island:
Ninety Mile Beach - Northland
North of Colville Township - Coromandel Peninsula  

South Island:
Skippers Canyon Road - Queenstown
Ball Hutt Road - Mt Cook 

Vehicle Substitution & Design
We shall make every effort to provide the vehicle requested, but where a vehicle is unavailable for any reason we reserve the right to provide you with a comparably high standard vehicle at no extra cost. While including the same facilities, vehicle layouts may vary slightly to those shown due to manufacturer's design changes.

Smokefree fleet
Your Econo Campers vehicle will be totally smoke free.  A cleaning fee will apply if we are required to clean your vehicle if you have smoked in it.

Living Equipment

Road User Charge/Diesel Tax
Econo Campers does NOT charge you extra for the New Zealand Road User Charge / Diesel Tax applicable to the 2 Berth Motorhome.

It is your obligation to contact Econo Vehicle Rentals should any problems be experienced with the vehicle. 
Econo Vehicle Rentals offers a 24 hour telephone number for On-Road Assistance in case of accidents or breakdowns.

Frequently Asked Questions
 
How costs are calculated
If I pick up my vehicle at 2.30pm on a Saturday and drop it off before 2.30pm on the following Saturday is this counted as a 7 day hire?

No, hires are calculated on a daily rate not a 24 hour basis. Therefore the first and last days are both counted when calculating the number of hire days, regardless of the time you pick up or drop off the vehicle. The above example would be an 8 day hire.

When do I have to pay the hire costs?
The balance of the hire cost must be paid at least 28 days prior to the pick up date.  Full payment information will be provided with the booking confirmation.

Is there cover for tyres and windscreens?
The repair and/or replacement of tyres is covered.  Multiple replacement of windscreens is only covered if you reduce the Bond/Excess to NZ$250 by paying NZ$12.00 per day. 

What is the minimum hire period?
A minimum of 7 days applies to all hires days except for all one way hires between the two Econo Vehicle Rentals Depots (Auckland and Christchurch) when a minimum of 14 days applies.

Is there a one way hire fee between Auckland and Christchurch?
No, Econo Campers does not charge a one way fee but please note the 14 day minimum hire period for one way hires.

Does Econo Campers charge for the Road Users Charge (Diesel Tax) on the 2 Berth Motorhome?
No, this is included in your hire fee.

Is there a refund if I shorten my hire while on holiday?
No, there is no refund if you return your vehicle earlier than the reserved period.

Can I change my drop off location at any time?
No, once travel has commenced a change of drop off location is always subject to confirmation by Econo Campers and may incur the full cost of repositioning the vehicle to the original drop off location reserved. 

Do I need a special licence to drive an Econo Campers vehicle?
No. As long as you are 21 years of age or older and hold a current valid driver's licence, your country of origin licence is acceptable. Where are your depots located?
Econo Campers has <depots> in Auckland and Christchurch, both conveniently located near to the International and Domestic Airports.

Can Econo Campers deliver a vehicle to my overnight accommodation?
No, it is necessary for you to come to our depot to collect your vehicle so we are able to complete the necessary documentation, and familiarise you with the operation of the campervan.  Remember, free transfers are available from the Airport.

Does Econo Campers have vehicles with automatic transmission?
No, all Econo Campers vehicles have manual transmission.

How old do I have to be to hire an Econo Campers vehicle?
The minimum age for hiring a vehicle is 21 years. There is no maximum age limit.

Is there an additional charge for extra drivers?
No, Econo Campers encourages you to register more than one person to share the driving for safety reasons.

Is there heating in the vehicle?
Yes, both models have 240 volt electric heaters. In addition, the 2 Berth Motorhome also has a gas heater. All vehicles have heating in the cab which operates when you are driving.

Is equipment included in the vehicle cost?
Yes, every Econo Campers vehicle is fully equipped at no additional cost to the hirer. Refer to <Living Equipment> for a complete list of items included.

If the gas bottle in my vehicle runs out am I entitled to a refund?
No, the hirer is responsible for all LPG refills.

Do the vehicles have maps and Holiday Park directories?
Yes, all hires include a pack containing a complimentary New Zealand Road Atlas, Holiday Park directories and other tourist information.

Do I have to pre-book Holiday Parks?
We recommend that you consider making advance bookings for the peak holiday periods over Christmas/New Year and the Easter period.  Bookings may also be wise in some of the key tourist centres for the peak summer period from mid December to the end of January.

Do I have to pre-book the ferry service across Cook Strait?
It is advisable to pre-book ferry services in advance to avoid any disappointment and inconvenience. During the peak summer season from November to March it is strongly recommended that you do so.

Do you have a breakdown service?
Yes, you can contact an Econo Campers staff member 24 hours a day on our freephone helpline 0800 759 919.  Econo Camper has a comprehensive network of Service Agents throughout the country who can assist.

Can I bring my dog or cat with me?
No, we regret that animals are not permitted to travel in any Econo Campers vehicle.

Can I smoke in the vehicle?
No, all Econo Campers vehicles are non smoking and a cleaning fee may be charged if smoke is detected in the vehicle when it is returned.
 
Do you offer an Airport shuttle service?
Yes, Econo Campers operates a mini coach shuttle between Auckland and Christchurch Airports and its Depots.

Complimentary transfers between the Airport and Depot are available to Econo Campers clients, on demand, by shuttle operated by Econo Vehicle Rentals.  Call Freephone on arrival in Auckland, and Freephone on arrival in Christchurch and a vehicle will be despatched immediately to collect you.

Complimentary transfers are available from the Depot to the Airport in both cities by Econo Vehicle Rentals shuttle and can be arranged by clients on termination of their hire.

While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.

Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed. Please note that a 1.75% credit card charge will be added when your payment is processed.

A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.

If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

Information disclosure
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.

Amendments
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Car rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 25.00
To add or remove extras to/from a confirmed booking: 10.00
Motorhome rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 75.00
To add or remove extras to/from confirmed booking: 20.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.

Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.

Refund Policy
We are committed to providing a quality service and aim for complete customer satisfaction. In the event of cancellation, any refunds or penalties are detailed in the terms and conditions of your selected vehicle that you are asked to read and accept at time of booking. In the event you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
